Espen Rønning is a Norwegian sound designer and re-recording mixer recognized for his contribution to some of Scandinavia’s most ambitious contemporary film productions. Working across the full spectrum of cinematic sound post-production — from sound design and dialogue editing to final re-recording mix — he brings a holistic perspective to shaping the sonic identity of a film.
Rønning’s work is characterized by a strong narrative focus and a refined sense of acoustic storytelling, balancing realism and dramatic impact to support both intimate character moments and large-scale visual sequences. His credits include major Norwegian and international features such as The Wave, The Burning Sea, Troll, Narvik, and The King’s No. The sound team behind The King’s No was awarded the MPSE Golden Reel Award, recognizing excellence in motion picture sound editing. The sound design for Narvik was also honored with the Amanda Award for Best Sound Design.
Based in Oslo, Rønning collaborates closely with directors, editors, composers, and producers to craft soundtracks that serve story, emotion, and audience engagement. His combination of creative sound design and precise technical execution has made him a trusted collaborator on projects ranging from character-driven drama to large-scale visual effects cinema.
